It was an absurdly short visit, but Venice more than lived up to its promise. And San Marco overwhelmed me. Arriving early to beat the crowds, we had to walk over raised, wooden boards to avoid several inches of water in the piazza.
The drawings included below were done very quickly – almost frantically – while standing, desperate to record that moment of a first, unforgettable encounter.
