A full-on, Hudson Valley thunderstorm is a wonderful thing – dramatic and cleansing. Generally, when it happens, I just sit and watch as an awed spectator, but on May 15th I had been painting late afternoon, all my materials were close at hand, and so I was able to capture the storm’s progress in real time.
The featured image above was the very last painting but the others below are in sequence, documenting the change of light, the increasingly saturated colors, the torrential downpour obliterating the landscape, and the luminous afterglow. I am proud to say that two of these paintings will be heading off to new homes at the end of my exhibition.
I don’t think I have ever painted so rapidly – and yes that is a gin martini – no judgement please!
