I sometimes find July and August too green. I call it the broccoli season since the trees take on a uniform hue and occasional dullness. Early morning or late evening are more interesting but sometimes neither time is convenient. So flowers provide a break and the opportunity to use a broader palette. And a large format like the hibiscus painting can also be liberating.
The larkspur and sweetpeas were given to us by a friend from her spectacular cutting garden, together with the green glass pickling jar which I love. I did the little 4 x 4” painting in the featured image at the start of this post as a thank you. Also the flowers smartened up our very indulgent lunch – fish and chips from a local British owned cafe. And yes that is bread and butter, and no, I don’t care!
