I was in Lisbon for work at the very end of February, beginning of March – my first visit, and I loved it.
I didn’t have much time time for sketching, just a quick one on the first day and a few hours on the morning I left, squeezed between a couple of church visits and the Marionette Museum. Yes, you read that correctly, and it is amazing (see image above).
The trip now seems a lifetime ago.
I generally love it when I have a space to myself. And even when I haven’t, my paintings almost always exclude the people. Lisbon is a vibrant, buzzing, capital city, and so looking back at these sketches is, in this moment of social distancing and quarantine, a little eerie and a touch melancholy.
