I painted both these little sketchbooks on the same day, Sunday January 17th. It felt liberating to do something small in watercolor again – simple and very direct. However, I had never used the zigzag format before and confess to feeling tense on the last pages – “Don’t screw it up now Gallagher!”
I really like them both – the whopping great 6 x 6 inches (!) and the 2 x 2 inch mini-me version. I alternated between the two for a practical purpose: in order to let the previously executed sketch dry, but they did set up a sort of call-and-response.
