Early Morning, September 26th

Last weekend had perfect autumnal weather. The light on Saturday morning was magical: mist slowly burning off in the sunlight, revealing incredible cloud formations and highlighting the tops of the trees. But I was too slow to organize myself to paint, and it was all over in forty minutes. So on Sunday I was determined to be up in time to try and capture what I was sure would be the same effects. I prepped batches of oil color in advance and then as the mist receded, painted like my pants were on fire! The time lapse videos exaggerate the frenetic activity but only a little…

I kept disappearing whilst painting the second picture to tend to the sourdough loaf I was baking – yes multitasking. So eat your heart out Martha Stewart!!
